خاستگاه، نقش و پیامدهای کاربرد ریاضیات در علم اقتصاد

چکیده
برای کسانی که با علم اقتصاد آشنایی اندکی دارند مطالعه مقالات این علم حیرت آور است. هر کس با مراجعه به مجلات معتبر این رشته ممکن است از خود بپرسد،«آیا این اقتصاد است یا شاخه‌ای از ریاضیات؟»؛ به هر حال این وضعیت کنونی این شاخه از علم است. هر کس برای اینکه آن را یاد بگیرد بیش از آنکه نیاز به شناخت فرهنگ، تاریخ، ساختارهای نهادی جامعه و امثال آن داشته باشد باید ریاضیات بداند. در واقع وضعیت کنونی به نحوی است که یادآور این جمله معروف بر سر دروازه آکادمی افلاطون است که، «هر که وارد اینجا می‌شود باید ریاضیات بداند».
اما چه شد که اقتصاد تا این حد به ریاضیات وابسته شد؟ آیا ریاضیات توانسته زمینه‌های بالندگی این علم را فراهم آورد؟ یا اینکه بر عکس، آیا ریاضیات موجب محدود شدن قلمرو علم اقتصاد شده است؟ آیا ریاضیات می‌تواند کلیدی برای فهم مشکلات اقتصادی باشد؟ اساساً چه شد که اقتصاددانان متوسل به ریاضیات شدند؟ اینها و پرسش‌هایی از این قبیل همگی از جمله مسائل مهمی هستند که می‌توانند در فهم رابطه بین اقتصاد و ریاضیات و اینکه این رابطه چگونه باید باشد، نقش مهمی داشته باشند. در این مقاله با تمرکز بر روی این پرسش‌ها به عنوان دو یافته مهم نشان خواهیم داد که؛ اولاً، توسل به ریاضیات برخلاف تصور مرسوم، نه به عنوان واکنشی به نگرش‌های مارکسیستی و نظریه ارزش مبتنی بر کار، بلکه بر آمده از یک خاستگاه فلسفی است که طبق آن برای اینکه اقتصاد یک رویکرد علمی تلقی شود باید به ریاضیات متوسل شود؛ ثانیاً، توسل به ریاضیات باعث محدود شدن قلمرو علم اقتصاد و حذف بسیاری از مفاهیم و پدیده‌های مهم از تحلیل‌ها و تبعات ناخوشایند دیگری برای اقتصاد شده است.

چکیده English

For anybody who has a little knowledge about economics, the study of economic papers will be astonishing. By reviewing economic journal one wonders, "Is this economics or a branch of mathematics?" However, this is the present state of this branch of science. It seems that, to learn it one needs to know mathematics rather than culture, history, institutions and institutional structures. Indeed, the present state of economics is reminiscent of the motto of Plato's Academy, "Whoever enters here must know mathematics". Now it is important to ask, "Why did economics depend on so much to mathematics?"; "Did mathematics provide a key to understanding of economic problems?"; "Why do economists resort to mathematics?" These and other similar questions signify high interaction between mathematics and economics. By focusing on these questions, this paper will demonstrate two important issues. First, contrary to conventional belief, resorting to mathematics is not a reaction to Marx's attack on economics. Through the theory of labor value; but rather, such attitude enjoys a philosophical basis, according to which, economics is regarded as scientific only when it is based on mathematics. Second, resorting to mathematics has restricted the scope of economics and has led to the elimination of some very important issues and phenomena from economic analysis.
